Install the drain body before the waterproofing, set it level to the finished tile line rather than the screed, run the membrane continuously over the sealing flange, then screed to a single-plane fall toward the channel.

Critical points
- Level reference — the most common failure. Setting the drain level to the screed leaves the grate either proud of the tile or recessed below it.
- Continuous waterproofing — the membrane must bond to the flange. Stopping it at the drain edge creates the leak path.
- Support rigidity — the drain must not move. On timber, fix a frame to the joists; do not screw to floorboards.
- Single-plane fall — no need for four-way falls; the floor falls only toward the channel.
- Grate protection — stainless steel scratches during tiling. Leave protective film on until handover.
