Shower drains fall into four practical categories: linear (channel) drains, point drains, tile-insert or invisible drains, and floor drains used in wet areas. The right choice depends on floor build-up, shower size, tile format and whether the drain should be visible.
1. Linear (channel) drains
A long narrow channel installed along a line in the floor. Water falls in a single plane toward the channel. Standard lengths custom lengths from 200 mm to 1200 mm. Best for level-access showers, large-format tile and design-led bathrooms.
2. Point drains
A single square or round drain at the centre of the shower, requiring a four-way fall. Lowest product cost and simplest to replace on existing pipework, but harder to detail with large-format tile and steeper floor falls.
3. Tile-insert / invisible drains
A linear or point drain where the grate is replaced by a tray holding a cut piece of the floor tile or stone. The drain becomes visually continuous with the floor. Requires accurate tile cutting and a removable insert for cleaning.
4. Floor drains for wet areas
Used in bathrooms, laundries, plant rooms and commercial wet areas — often in addition to a shower drain. Available with different load classes and grate types.
