Installation support and guidance for shower drain installers

Most shower drain failures are installation failures, not product failures. AERLO supplies drains designed to be installed correctly and quickly — with clear setting-out dimensions, height adjustment on site, and a waterproofing flange that works with standard membranes.

Designed for Site Conditions

  • Height-adjustable frames — correct for tile thickness variance on site instead of forcing the tile to match the drain.
  • Integrated sealing flange — the waterproofing membrane bonds directly to the drain body.
  • Removable grates and accessible hair traps — cleaning without dismantling anything.
  • Side and vertical outlet options — fit the drain to the pipework instead of rebuilding the pipework.

Installation Sequence

Step Key point
1. Set out Confirm drain position and check the outlet route before cutting anything
2. Support Fix a solid, non-moving base — especially on timber subfloors
3. Fit drain body Level to the finished tile line, not the screed
4. Waterproof Membrane continuous over the flange and up the wall
5. Screed and fall Single-plane fall to the drain channel
6. Tile Protect the grate; check flush finish along the full length
7. Test Water test before handover

Common Installation Errors

  • Drain set level to the screed, leaving the grate below or above the tile.
  • Slope reduced to make the drain fit — water pools at the far end.
  • Waterproofing stopped at the drain edge instead of continuing over the flange.
  • Drain screwed directly to floorboards on timber subfloors.
  • Grate scratched during tiling and cleaned aggressively afterwards.
