The Challenge
- High water volume. Spa treatment showers and wash-down of wet areas produce far more water than a domestic shower.
- Level access required. Treatment areas are designed for step-free access, so there is no threshold to contain water — the drain must keep pace with the flow.
- Aggressive environment. Chlorinated water plus humid salt air attacks 304 stainless. Material grade was a specification decision, not an upgrade.
- Heavy maintenance load. Tropical environments grow biofilm quickly in traps; cleaning must be fast and tool-free.
- Guest visibility. The drain is visible in treatment rooms, so it also had to suit the interior design.
The Solution
Drain type: Wall-position linear drain sized above the calculated flow, with accessible traps throughout.
- Grade 316 stainless steel throughout, including grates and fixings — non-negotiable in a chlorinated, coastal environment
- Drain length and flow capacity sized against the total output of the treatment shower, with margin for wash-down
- Wall-position layout giving a shallow single-plane fall, keeping the floor level-accessible
- Large hair traps and tool-free grate removal to suit a tropical cleaning regime
- Brushed finish selected to sit with the natural material palette of the interiors
- Pool surround areas used a separate load-rated channel arrangement with debris baskets for leaves and grit
Guest Villas
Villas used the same drain family with a tile-insert grate so the drain visually disappeared into the stone bathroom floors.

- Drainage sized for spa-level flow rather than domestic assumptions
- Level access maintained across treatment areas
- Material grade appropriate to a chlorinated coastal environment
- Cleaning routine achievable within the spa’s daily turnaround
