Lift the grate or tile insert out, remove hair and debris from the hair trap, rinse the channel with warm water, and replace the grate. In normal domestic use this takes a few minutes every one to two weeks; commercial and hotel installations need more frequent attention.
Routine cleaning
- Lift the grate or tile insert — by hand, using the supplied tool if required.
- Remove hair and debris from the grate underside and the hair trap.
- Rinse the channel with warm water; use a soft brush for the channel walls.
- Check that the odour trap or siphon is clear and still holds water.
- Replace the grate and confirm it sits flush.

Cleaning products
- Use — warm water, mild soap, non-abrasive cream cleaners, soft brush or cloth.
- Avoid — abrasive powders, steel wool, and aggressive acidic or high-chlorine cleaners, particularly on brushed and PVD finishes.
- Stainless steel — a dedicated stainless steel cleaner maintains the finish and leaves a protective film.
Preventing build-up
- Use a hair trap appropriate to the household — a larger trap where there is long hair.
- Flush the trap periodically in bathrooms used rarely; a dried-out water seal allows odour through.
- Do not pour oils or grease down the drain.
- If drainage slows, clean the trap before assuming a blockage in the pipe.
